The Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka circuit is Japan's most popular itinerary for good reason: it combines the modern megalopolis, the ancient imperial capital with over 1,600 temples, and the country's most food-obsessed city. With 10 days you have just enough time to enjoy each place without rushing — and squeeze in a Nara day trip to meet the sacred deer.

💡 Practical tips for this circuit
🚄 JR Pass
A 7-day JR Pass covers all shinkansen except the Nozomi and Mizuho, plus local JR lines. For this 10-day trip, the 14-day pass works out better if you plan any side trips or want flexibility.
🏨 Where to stay
3 nights in Tokyo (Shinjuku or Shibuya), 3 nights in Kyoto (city center or Gion area), 3 nights in Osaka (Namba or Shinsaibashi). Kyoto is pricier and books out fast — reserve early.
💴 Total budget
Allow ¥150,000–220,000 per person for 10 days (excluding flights): mid-range accommodation, food, local transport and entrance fees. JR Pass (~¥50,000) is additional.
📅 Best time to visit
Spring (March–May) for cherry blossom; autumn (October–November) for maple foliage. Avoid August (extreme heat and Obon crowds) and early May (Golden Week holidays).
